WHO ARE WE?

The Great Western Racing & Recreation Reserve is a volunteer based community group focused on providing the best community space for a range of sporting and recreational events. The Great Western Pleasure Ride is one such event which is organised by this group. The ride utilises the communal facilities which the Recreation Reserve committee are continually improving and developing, using the funds raised through our event. 

 

Over the past five years our event has raised more than $135,000 which has all been invested back into the venue where it is held. We recently opened our new function facility that will include a brand new commercial kitchen, we need the funds from our 2021 event to help professionally furnish it with great appliances though. In 2008 we built a new toilet & shower block that all of our attendees utilise over the weekend too. 

We think it is really important that people understand where the funds raised through our event go, as by supporting our event you are supporting our community, people and groups who use our reserve facilities.

A small group of people sitting as voluntary members on the Recreation Reserve committee thought of an idea back in 2003 to start this event, an idea which 18 years later, is now a staple event in everyone's calendar.

The Great Western Pleasure Ride had one aim - to bring together a bunch of pleasure ride enthusiasts to enjoy in a relaxing yet beautiful weekend getaway with their four-legged friends. And what a successful event it has been. Over 200 people make the journey to the small, sleepy village of Great Western each year to take part in our event and we cannot thank you enough to coming along to enjoy it with us year on year.

​​The reserve hosts a number of events and functions throughout the year. In January each year, horses take to the track in the Seppelt Great Western Cup. At Easter, the annual Great Western Rodeo brings hundreds of people together to enjoy your typical country bash! ​
